Rain & Saltwater II

A journey through Northern Ireland

Part One Here

The fact that this trip was shot mostly through my Iphone was one of the reasons i've been so reluctant to publish it for the longest time. I'm glad to say that I have since learnt the value of composition, and have discovered to navigate the pitfalls of perfectionism. There is value in capturing moments without the need to have a specific outcome in mind

Looking back on this trip has reminded me of the reasons I took mostly only quick snaps through my phone. It's because I was so engrossed in the moment most of the time that I barely even thought about grabbing my camera out of the car. It's because these pictures were the results of unplanned moments of wandering off, and I was lucky to have anything at all on me to be able to capture these instants. Now that I have changed my perspective and can truly recall the stories behind the pictures, I can look back fondly on them, no matter how grainy or blurry some of them might be. Imperfections I've come to cherish.

Just like the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi ; the concept of putting broken pottery pieces back together by lining them with gold as a way of underlying and appreciating these flaws (and creating and stronger and more beautiful piece of art) I've now embraced these imperfections. Especially now that travel has been restricted so much, I'm just glad to have these photos to help remind me of the precious moments i got to experience. Until next time.
